What
is a Domain Name ?
A
Domain Name is a name registered with an Internet registration
authority, sometimes referred to as an Internet address. |

 |
Why
should I register a Domain Name?
Your domain is an important marketing tool for toady's
business on the Internet. Registering your domain is easy
and should be done sooner rather than later.
A Domain Name provides you with your own unique address
on the Internet. This can be used for either your email
eg. myname@mydomain.co.uk or as your website address
www.mydomain.co.uk.
You probably already have an email address with your Internet
Service Provider (ISP) such as john@yourisps-domain.co.uk
but having your own name is more memorable, plus you do
not ever have to change it. |

What
characters can I use for my Domain Name?
Use only letters, numbers and/or dashes ("-") to create
Domain Names. Do NOT begin or end a Domain Name with a
dash.
Do NOT use more than a total of 63 letters, numbers or
dashes.
Do NOT include spaces.
Domain names are NOT case sensitive. |

 |
 |
How
do I find out if a Domain Name is available?
Use our easy domain search facility, this will search
for your chosen domain and tell you whether it is available
or not |
| |
 |
 |
What
happens if my Domain Name is already taken ?
You may be shocked to find that someone else has already
registered your first choice of domain. Therefore, you
will need to think of an alternative. For example, a florist
trying to register flowers.co.uk will be unsuccessful
but if they register flowersinbrighton.co.uk this allows
them to be more descriptive of their location and what
business they are in. |

My
chosen Domain Name is also my trademark. How can I get
it back?
If someone has registered a Domain Name that you feel
should rightfully belong to you, perhaps because it infringes
your trademark or well known trading name then you may
be able to challenge their right to ownership of the name
by contacting the relevant naming authority. To find out
if you have a reasonable case to challenge then you may
look at the current versions of the Domain Name Dispute
Resolution Policies. The current version of the Dispute
Policy for .com .net and .org Domain Names may be found
at http://www.icann.org/udrp/udrp.htm The current version
of the Dispute Policy for all .uk Domain Names may be
found at http://www.nic.uk/ref/drs.html |
